fashion dog

i am taking care of my family dog Fluffy and she got a haircut during the winter so she needed a sweater and i found this turtleneck scarf that i bought in china town a couple months ago and just cut two holes for her legs and it seems to work out perfectly, looks like a beautiful loose turtleneck and makes fluffy look like a conservative woman. so i just wanted to share that with you incase you end up needing to make a dog sweater too.

DDMMYYYY

Jesi the Elder recently had a kick-ass party to debut her latest music video at Cine-Cycle. The band that was smart enough to employ her mad skills was DDMMYYY. It was a supper fun party, the beer was cheap and I accidentally drank all the beer from my purse so I don't have many photos... but enjoy the video- it may be just as awesome as she is.

p.s. While you're online, add your voice to a peace petition.

Malayalam Film Stars Like Bikes Too

Apparently the message of the DNS's 'be-smoking-hot-on-a-bike' philosophy is spreading world wide.
Photo Stolen from my friend Jordan's blog. We met at the Vice Festival Ball. He is going to come back in a few months and do his masters at Parson's for ethical manufacturing/production. I heart him.

Remember this...?

It's baaaaaack!!! Applications for FAT (toronto alternative fashion week) 2009 are due on December 22nd and the Nightshades are working on an entry... our documentary premiered here in 2008 and it was a whole world of amazing. This year's gonna be really different and we're taking things in a new direction (think: Bike Inspired Sustainable Fashion) but just as amazing. Go here for more info about applications.

ho ho ho.

winter time = hibernation. And yet surprisingly for me, hibernation = procrastination too. Like right now.

Right now I should be working on a fellow nightshades tattoo design…. but instead I am going to write on here. This is because a) I am easily distracted b) everything I draw looks terrible (tomorrow. i promise nam. for real. promise).

Winter also = CHRISTMAS. Probably my favorite holiday. Maybe more so, since i stopped working retail.

But you know whats crazy about christmas time. Annually, North Americans spend over 450 BILLION dollars on the holidays. Our continent alone. Every. Year. I don’t even really know how to wrap my head around that number.

Here’s another crazy stat. Do you know what the estimated cost of making clean water available to the entire world? Around 10 – 13 billion. Still a rather large number… and yet not in perspective.

Don’t get me wrong. I love Christmas. I love presents. But maybe it’s time we rethink our gifting. Rethink the way we’re spending our 450 billion dollars, if we’re going to spend it. To buy green. Buy used. Buy fair trade. Buy locally.

Or maybe just buy less. Make more? We’re all crafty DIY kids. What better a time then now, to put our skills to use.

…and hey, if it comes to boxing day and you’ve still got some spare cash floating around you didn’t spend on presents. Here's a pretty neat way to spend it too...I know. I know. Everyone gets scared away when anything’s remotely religious. But come on, it’s christmas time. EVERYTHING’S remotely religious. Get over it. They’re doing good stuff.

Bicycle Etiquette

Jennie Rutz dropped by Life Drawing at Buy the Pound this week, and drew some fantastic pics of Meg if she was a Disney character!!! Then she told us about her blog, Bicycle Etiquette and we flipped out. Bicycle Etiquette is her idea for an animated tv show about girls who travel the globe on bicycles... sounds amazing Jennie!

Politics

So... the whole Coalition thing bumped CBC from airing Fierce Bambi's Vintage 69 appearance last night. Boo.

But- Democracy is important here people. Inform yourself about what's going on, even if it's for 5 minutes. These arse-holes in politics count on your apathy and lack of information to get away with some really gross stuff that may actually be an infringement upon your constitutional rights.

This is how fascism starts people. Lord Acton put it well, "Absolute power corrupts absolutely."

So while this whole coalition thing may suck, like spending more tax money and taking attention away from awesome DSN vintageness, it's important that we actively practice democracy, and call our politicians out on their shit.

(I heart cheesy generational montages.)

WHAT'S A GIRL TO DO.

Clearly, not new news. However, I was reminded of this video the other night, riding home through bellwoods, watching my breath hang in the air, and wishing (as I always do) for the accompaniment of a choreographed bmx dance routine. One day... one day.
