LOS ANGELOPES.

Hands down, Los Angelopes by Richie Thomassen was my favourite short at the festival. Beautifully shot. Fantastic subject matter. So much so, that this trailer doesn't even do it justice. I'm excited for the BFF to come to Toronto, just so that I can watch this in full all over again.

FIXATION

The east-coast ladies are in NYC right now taking it over. Already FABRIC BIKE is in the top 10 films to watch at BFF according to Opening Ceremony. It's a pretty big honour seeing the company we are keeping.

Thinking about not being in NYC makes me sad... so more on other bike movies, FIXANATION just put out it's trailer. If you're fixed on fixed you got to check this out if you haven't already.

One of the riders featured is Sean Martin of Take Over LA. I got to party a bit with Sean at Interbike last year. (Got to love gingers.) He's a fine upstanding gentlemen and a scholar. I'm stoked to see the full movie when it hits stores! Also, lets go ride bikes in LA. Look at all that room on the road!

Here we are doing shots at the International Gold Sprints in Vegas. I'm rocking out DNS seafoam bamboo bike tights, Sean's on my right, Justin of KNICE Clothing is on my left, and there will be a special prize rewarded to whoever can name the mystery man on the far left.

BFF NEW YORK PART I: JOYRIDE!

Photobucket
So far our time in New York has been fantastic. Joyride at the Spencer Brownstone Gallery in Soho was great and entirely packed. Maybe the fact that the bar was dry by 8 pm was a good sign. It was an amazing chance to check out the other artists, make a whole lot of new friends and chat about the Bike. So far it seems to be getting a fairly good response. Check out this article written by Velojoy, the photo below was a sweet shot Prolly snapped.

But the best is yet to come! Our film is premiering today at the Anthology Film Archives at 6, 8 & 10 pm! And according to Opening Ceremony even listed it as one of the Top 10 Must-See films at the 2011 BFF.

So now is when we roll out of bed (other people's couches & floors), scrounge up some breakfast (yes it's well past noon) and make our way over to the BFF Street Party. Thanks for all the love NYC!!

BIKE POLO BABES.

Photobucket
Better late than never right? I guess that's what happens when you only shoot film and forget to develop your photos. But although Ladies Army in Austin was over a month ago now, I still have to say that it was really amazing to meet women from all over Canada & the States who ride hard and love their bikes. In such a male dominated sport and I suppose bike culture in general, it's nice to remind yourself that there is lots of awesome female cyclists out there.

Ladies Army IV? I'm so there.

Birthday Update: Cat and Kirsten survived the birthday in an Alleyway, and Kirsten actually threw herself a SECOND birthday party (which I couldn't find because I don't actually read the details on facebook) and I ended up leaving her surprise gift on her doorstep... Happy Birthday again, Cat and Kirsten!!!

Rob Ford

Our talented friend wrote this song dedicated to our fierce Enemy/ Mayor of Toronto, Rob Ford! (And I was informed that the first few line were inspired by The Deadly Nightshades!)

Photobucket

And here's my favorite pics from BFF NYC in 2010.... this is when Nam flew in from Vancouver and surprised me! This was the best gang vacation so far. I'm SO excited to drive down to NYC for the BFF in 2011 - it's only a week away!!!

This was the after-after party of our first Bicycle Film Festival in 2008. Brendt Barbur, (the guy who started the festival) stayed at Aubrey's old apartment building in Chinatown. We had such a fun time that year. There was a fire door with a ladder in the building that lead out to the roof, so we decided to head up there after the movies were over. Cat lit fireworks, and Niamh dropped teapot off the roof by accident. Now that we're heading to NYC with our first actual film in the festival (and art in the art show!) it's fun to look at BFF pics from back in the day.

BFF NYC program announced!

Photobucket
The film line-up for the BFF in NYC was announced this week! We were ecstatic to see our short FABRIC BIKE kicking off the Urban Shorts Program, alongside the likes of Spike Jonze & Lucas Brunelle. (WHAT.)

So we're excitedly counting down the days until the festival, when we load our cars full of bicycles (both fabric and metal), and make the drive down.

Check out the full program here, & hopefully we'll see some of you in NYC!

VANCOUVER GOES WILD

A: The Canucks and bikes.

Q: What does Vancouver love?

The next fortnight promises to be a poop-storm of both. If you didn't see the epic of epic goals last night play-off game, Vancouver tucked away the only goal of the night on the Bruins with 20 seconds left in the 3rd. I didn't even watch the game OR read the news but I know this, that is how insane this city is going with Hockey fever. It seeps into your minds whilst you sleep. This is because Vancouver's love for their team is intense. (Don't click on that link if you are my mother/anybody's mother.) I look forward to the giant street parties/riots for the next 6 games. I've been dinging my bell on the streets but it gets drowned out when every dude with their mom's car keys and a jersey is out honking non-stop when the Canucks score/almost score/win/get mentioned on the radio.

Tonight starts the festivities of VELOPALOOZA, Vancouver's amazing grass-roots inspired 14 day festival of all things bike. There is a bike ride for everyone, from the amazing Bike Rave 2.0 hosted by my friend Mr. Eric Stall to a Sandwich Nazi Ride hosted by my friend Cy Eaton. Tonight it starts at the Waldorf Hotel (Vancouver's answer to the Drake, in fact Namtron and I often find ourselves calling it that) and ends with car-free day on Commercial Drive. (Kensignton P.S. anyone?). See, Toronto and Vancouver aren't so different, except the Canucks are a real NHL team.

My must have bike accessory for these two weeks? The Oopsmark Bike Wine Rack.
